What This Test Can Tell You

The test looks for 14 high-risk HPV types associated with cervical cancer. It individually identifies HPV 16, 18, 31, 45, 51 and 52, and reports the remaining types in groups:

• HPV 33 / 58
• HPV 35 / 39 / 68
• HPV 56 / 59 / 66

Seeing an individually reported genotype gives you more detail than a result that only says whether high-risk HPV was detected. Your result still needs to be interpreted alongside your age, screening history and individual circumstances; it can help inform follow-up but does not diagnose cervical cancer.

An HPV test looks for the virus itself. It does not examine cervical cells for abnormal changes and does not diagnose cervical cancer.

How the HPV Test Kit Works

2. Collect your sample at home — Your kit includes a self-collection vaginal swab and instructions. Follow the Instructions for Use carefully and collect your sample privately, at a time that suits you.
3. Return your sample — Package and return it according to the instructions provided.
4. Laboratory analysis — Your sample is analysed in Singapore at an accredited laboratory using the BD Onclarity™ HPV Assay.
5. Receive your results — Typically within 2–5 days of the laboratory receiving your sample, via the Camtech Health App.
6. Understand what comes next — Your results are reviewed by certified medical professionals, and a virtual teleconsultation can be provided where needed.

Understanding Your Results

• High-risk HPV not detected — The high-risk types covered by the test were not found in your sample. Continue screening according to the recommendations for your age and circumstances.
• High-risk HPV detected — One or more of the covered high-risk types was found. This does not mean you have cervical cancer — appropriate follow-up should be completed.
• Individually reported type (HPV 16, 18, 31, 45, 51 or 52) — The report can name that genotype specifically to help inform follow-up.
• A grouped result — A positive result in a group means HPV from that group was detected, without identifying the individual genotype.
• Invalid or unavailable result — Contact us or follow the instructions with your report if this occurs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an HPV test the same as a Pap test?
No. An HPV test looks for high-risk types of the virus; a Pap test looks at cervical cells for abnormal changes. In Singapore, Pap testing is generally recommended for women aged 25-29 who have ever had sexual activity, and HPV testing from age 30 onwards.1

Does a positive HPV result mean I have cervical cancer?
No. It means one of the high-risk types was detected in your sample. HPV is common and many infections clear naturally, a positive result is a screening result, not a cancer diagnosis. Depending on the type detected and your circumstances, further testing may be recommended.1,2.

Can I use the test if I am 25-29?
Singapore's usual guidance recommends a Pap test rather than an HPV test at this age, as HPV infections are especially common and often clear naturally. If you are considering HPV testing outside the usual recommendation, speak with a qualified healthcare professional about the right approach for you.

Do I still need screening if I have had the HPV vaccine?
Yes. Vaccination provides important protection but does not cover every HPV type associated with cervical cancer, so regular screening is still recommended.

How long will my results take?
Typically 2-5 days after the laboratory receives your sample. Delivery and return-shipping time are separate from laboratory turnaround.

What if I have symptoms?
This is a screening test, not a way to investigate symptoms. If you have symptoms such as unusual vaginal bleeding, bleeding after sex, unusual discharge or persistent pelvic or lower-abdominal pain, arrange a medical assessment rather than relying on a home HPV test.
